Landscape construction Auckland, built down to the finishing touches.
The bones of a garden are the bits that stay. Walls, decks, paving, driveways, fences. Built well, they outlast the planting by decades. ForknHoe has been doing this kind of landscape construction Auckland-wide for 17 years, on every wall, every joint, every fixing.
Landscape construction Auckland
The structural craft behind every great garden.
Everything you can’t grow. Decks, paving, driveways, retaining walls, fences, pergolas, screens, drainage. The kind of landscape construction Auckland projects routinely need an engineer for, and almost always need someone who knows what consent applies.
Hard landscaping Auckland
Materials and methods designed for the conditions.
Hard landscaping in Auckland’s clay soils can be unforgiving when the wrong materials are used, but it performs exceptionally well when everything is built correctly. We pick materials with the site in mind: H4 framing as standard, stainless fixings near salt, structural footings sized for the soil under them.

Landscaping contractors Auckland
Designed for compliance, craft and care.
We’re the landscaping contractors Auckland body corps and property managers return their tenders to because we carry the cover, work to SiteSafe (or equivalent), lodge consents ourselves, and turn up when we said we would.
The boring half of the job, done properly so nothing falls over later. Same team that quotes the work handles the excavation, footing, construction and final sign-off.
Building consents
Which projects require them and who lodges them.
Most landscape construction in Auckland needs at least one form of consent: building consent for retaining walls over 1.5m, decks over 1.5m above ground, fences over 2.5m or any pool fencing, and any structure with structural load. Resource consent applies where stormwater or earthworks rules are triggered. ForknHoe lodges the consents ourselves and books the inspections, so you do not have to chase Auckland Council or coordinate with the engineer.

Construction FAQs.
What is landscape construction?
Landscape construction (sometimes called hard landscaping) covers everything you can’t grow. Walls, decks, paving, driveways, fences and gates, pergolas, screens, and drainage. It’s the structural craft that holds a garden together and outlasts the planting by decades.
Do I need a building consent for my project?
It depends. Retaining walls over 1.5m need a building consent. Decks over 1.5m above ground need one too. Fences over 2.5m and any pool fencing have their own rules. Structural work with load, such as pergolas, may need one. We lodge the consent for any project that needs it and book the inspection.
What materials do you use?
We match materials to the site. Timber options include kwila, vitex, garapa and pine H4 for decking. Retaining walls we build in timber, concrete block, gabion or schist depending on load and aesthetic. Paving in natural stone, clay, concrete or permeable systems. Every specification is written into the quote.
Are you qualified and insured for construction work?
Yes. We carry up to $3 million in public liability insurance, work to a documented health and safety procedure, and our construction work is delivered by qualified builders. Full compliance documentation and certificate of currency are available on request or included with any quote.
What construction services do you offer?
Five specialties: decking (timber and composite, single-level to multi-level and pool decks), paving (natural stone, clay, concrete, permeable), driveways (concrete, exposed aggregate, paved and permeable), retaining walls (timber, concrete, gabion, schist), and fences and gates (timber paling, slat screens, pool fencing, automatic gates).
Do you offer a warranty on construction work?
Yes. Every build comes with a written warranty. Coverage and duration are set out per project depending on material and build type – retaining walls, decks, driveways and paving each carry their own applicable terms, which we detail in the quote and again in the final handover documentation. We’d rather over engineer the sub-frame than come back to fix it in year three.
How long does a construction project take?
A retaining wall or fence typically takes 3 to 7 days. A deck runs 5 to 14 days depending on size and levels. A full driveway is 1 to 3 weeks including sub-base and drainage. Larger multi-element construction jobs are timelined at quote stage.
